In 2012, a single Spear‐shaped Leaf mutant peanut (Reg. no. GS‐11, PI 693219) (Arachis hypogaea L.) plant was identified in a breeding trial plot of ‘Georgia‐06G’ at the University of Georgia, Coastal Plain Experiment Station's Gibbs Research Farm in Tifton, GA. It was believed to be a spontaneous mutation; an inheritance study examining segregation in an F2 population concluded single gene inheritance with incomplete dominance, and the gene was designated SpL. The unique phenotype and inheritance of this mutation makes the Spear‐shaped Leaf an interesting mutant to be preserved as a genetic stock and released to the public for researchers interested in the genetic, biochemical, and physiological aspects of leaf shape and leaf development. The Spear‐shaped Leaf mutant could also serve as a tool to measure outcrossing in the field or as a border or plot marker.

no。
