One group of materials that are known for their wide range of applications in various arenas of the present world are the ‘ferrous materials’, which accounts for the reason of their huge demand and high-scale production, whereas on the contrary, the manufacturing of such iron-bearing materials, such as steel, cast iron, ferroalloys, and so on, has certain disadvantages, in particular, energy intensive processes, greenhouse gas emissions especially CO2, and exhaustive utilization of natural resources. Materials on reaching their end of life are discarded as wastes which have formed a global concern and thus gaining worldwide attention for their reutilization by recycling and resource recovery. This paper provides a brief description of availability of various secondary ferrous and carbon resources, which can be effectively used for synthesizing value-added iron-bearing materials through development of efficient recycling and reformation processes and thus benefitting the environment and relevant industries.
