Abstract Floodlighting design of architectural objects is an art of creating a night image of buildings and their surroundings. The well-known and commonly used floodlighting designing methods have a series of advantages and disadvantages. This paper, while discussing two of them, presents a new way of shaping the luminance distribution on the real architectural object. It is the new designing method of floodlighting the architectural objects. It is based on a system which comprises the multimedia projector widely used for currently popular event shows, and a personal computer with a computer application. The paper describes the advantages of applying such a solution compared to the well-known and used object floodlighting designing methods. It also describes the disadvantage of the system and equipment requirements needed to implement the lighting design based on the presented method.
