Three-dimensional Green-function method to predict the water wave radiation of a submerged body with ice cover

Abstract The three-dimensional Green-function method is presented in this paper to predict the water wave radiation of a submerged body in infinite depth of water with ice cover. The ice is modelled as an elastic plate and the fluid is assumed to be perfect fluid and irrotational. The zero-speed Green function satisfying the linearized covered-surface condition is derived for the first time in three dimensions, the numerical results of the Green function and its derivatives are given out. Then the integral equations are established by distributing the source strength on the body surface, the hydrodynamic coefficients and ice plate deflection are solved. A submerged sphere is taken as an example, the excellent level of agreement with the analytical solutions reveals that the present method is correct and reliable.
