Hydrophobic coatings based on triethoxy(octyl)silane

Hydrophobic coatings on cellulosic materials were obtained using triethoxy(octyl)silane and its dimer, 1,1,3,3-tetraethoxy-1,3-dioctyldisiloxane, as modifiers. The structures of the modifiers were studied. The efficiency of the use of these modifiers in producing hydrophobic coatings was demonstrated. The maximum contact angle of 135° is achieved with a modifier content not exceeding 8% and with coating thickness of only 4 um or less. The modified materials retain their hydrophobic properties for a long time.
