Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a heterogeneous endocrine disorder which its prevalence directly depends on the diagnostic criteria used to define this syndrome. Recently, many different factors have been introduced as predisposing factors in the high incidence of PCOS, one of them is microRNAs. MicroRNAs are short non-coding RNAs that can regulate target gene expression through transcriptional repression or degradation. So, they can play an important role in the control of reproductive and endocrine functions, tissue development and differentiation particularly the process of oocyte maturation, folliculogenesis and efficient fertilization. MicroRNAs are involved in metabolic processes and influenced by obesity and high androgen concentrations in PCOS patients. Abnormal expression of miRNAs may associate with several reproductive disorders including PCOS. In addition, microRNAs can be used as a biomarker to differentiate between PCOS patients and women with normal menstruation. The aim of this review is to investigate the association between PCOS signaling pathways and miRNAs expression.
