Study on the influence of effective width of roads in the central business district on the evacuation time in case of emergency

The central business district is a densely populated area, compared with other evacuation modes, pedestrian evacuation is the most effective evacuation mode in case of emergency. During emergency evacuation, the pace of the crowd and the effective width of the roads are closely relevant. At present, there are differences in the setting of effective width of road in the central business district at home and abroad, and they pay more attention to the general traffic value of road, without too much research and exploration on the setting of effective width of road in emergency evacuation. In the case of limited space resources, it is increasingly important to study the effect of effective width of road on pedestrian evacuation in the central business district. Based on this, this paper conducts Research measure on the effective width of road, business center of the Three Gorges Square in Chongqing. After research measuring, it is modally analyzed according to relevant regulation. The result of the research shows that the main pedestrian road of Three Gorges Square can’t meet the demands of the urgent evacuation. And when the effective width of the roads w ≥7.6 m, it can meet the demands of high-density pedestrian evacuation in commercial center.
