Self-assembly researches in nanoscale have attracted numerous attention from researchers around the world. However, few studies have attempted to include discussions and visualization of literatures on this topic. This study conducted a bibliometric review on self-assembly researches in nanoscale from 1992 to 2020 using CiteSpace. Five thousand four hundred ninety-seven articles from the Web of Science core collection database were selected as the sample. Results showed that the most vital development in self-assembly research occurred in the USA, Germany, China, and England. “Self-assembly,” “nanoparticle,” “nanostructure,” and “surface” were the most frequently used keywords. Whereas “graphene.” “drug delivery,” and “membrane” received citation bursts in recent years. Nearly 80% of existing researches were related to subject categories of Chemistry and Materials Science. DNA origami, charge transport, DNA nanotube, magnetic media, and colloidal particle were the identified co-citation clusters and represented the hot topics and emerging trends. This study provides researchers an extensive and intensive understanding of the salient research themes and trends of self-assembly researches in nanoscale worldwide.
