Effects of Glass Fiber Reinforcement to Mechanical Properties of Composite Frame Materials

Conventional metal materials are used in every field in industrial applications, but contemporary requirements such as high vibration dampening, metal materials are unfortunately not sufficient. Also necessities of the time requirements as energy safe, environmental factors and carbon footprint increases the importance of composite materials in the industry today. On the other hand vibration is one of the most important problems aimed to be solved in machine tools. The tool life, efficiency and tolerance ranges of the work pieces are directly affected by vibration. The aim of this study is the development of composite material for machine tools structure in line with these purposes, moulding easily, and cost-effective moulding materials in comparison with existing moulding systems, needless finishing machining and high vibration damping capability than existing materials. The effects of fiberglass cloth added to composite structure as an admixture to reduce the rigidity and increase the durability of composite material, tensile strength changes, the natural frequency and vibration damping capability of the material are examined by analyzing with experimental method. The experimental results of with and without reinforced specimens were compared. In consideration of quantitative data, high vibration dampening capability and high strength composite structure have developed for industrial applications.
