Abstract The objective of this study was to establish mathematical models to predict the chemical constituents of the empty body and carcass from the rib section. The database was composed of five independent experiments, comprising a total of 171 experimental units consisting of 133 noncastrated males, 26 castrated males, and 12 females. The most representative breeds in the database were Santa Ines (n = 58), Morada Nova (n = 74), and Brazilian Somali (n = 39). In the current study, the following independent variables were included using the rib section: water (Waterrib, %), crude protein (CPrib, %), ether extract (EErib, %) energy (Energyrib, Mcal/kg), visceral fat (VF, % EBW), organs plus viscera (OV, % EBW), carcass dressing (CD, % EBW), hot carcass weight (HCW, kg) and empty body weight (EBW, kg).
