In 1995, in the first issue of the journal ‘Multiple Sclerosis’ is an editorial by Ingrid V Allen, Don Silberberg and Takahiko Saida. They said, ‘It is therefore with a sense of optimism and confidence that we launch this new journal, convinced that the opportunities are great and the need is real’. For 5 years, Ingrid Allen, based in Belfast, was the first ‘Editor-in-Chief’. At the time, not everyone shared the optimism expressed in that editorial; however, it is largely to her credit that the initial launch succeeded and the journal then went on to flourish.
