Piperazine-tuned benzimidazole-based multifunctional fluorescent sensor for the detection of mercury (II) ion and pH

Abstract An organic chemical sensor (P) based on benzimidazole for detecting Hg2+ and pH in semi-aqueous media was described. P has a very high sensitivity and selectivity for Hg2+ in semi-aqueous media, and P monitoring Hg2+ with excellent anti-interference performance. Interestingly, H+ can remove Hg2+ from the [P-Hg2+] complex and restore the spectral signal of P. The sigmoidal fitting of pH-dependent fluorescence intensity provided an apparent pKa value of 6.51. This research may enrich the field of multi-functional chemosensors in natural products.
