The synthesis and structure of new ferrocenyl-containing o-iminophenol schiff bases and nickel(II), copper(II) bis-o-iminophenolato complexes

New ferrocenyl-containing Schiff bases Fc-CH=N-(5-CH3-C6H3-OH) (1), Fc-CH=N-(4-Cl–C6H3–OH) (2) and Fc-CH=N-(4-CH3-C6H3-OH) (3) have been synthesized by the condensation method. The molecular structures of 13 in crystal state were determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. o-Iminophenols 1 and 3 crystallize in 1D chain motif, while o-iminophenol 2 form pairs due to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The interaction of o-iminophenols 1–3 with nickel(II) chloride in the presence of a base or with copper(II) acetate leads to new bis-o-iminophenolato complexes of the type (Fc-CH=N-(R-C6H3-O))2MII, where M = Ni, R = 5-Me (4), R = 4-Cl (5), R = 4-Me (6); M = Cu, R = 5-Me (7), R = 4-Cl (8), R = 4-Me (9). New compounds have been characterized by means of IR-spectroscopy, EI mass-spectrometry (49), elemental analysis, 1H, 13C NMR-spectroscopy (for 1–6) and EPR-spectroscopy (for 7 and 8).
