Powder Material Mechanical Properties After Free Upsetting

Rational free upsetting regimes are determined for sintered powder materials for subsequent application of the results obtained during preparation of complex shaped components. Free upsetting of heated porous specimens is performed under dry friction conditions at contact surfaces. The production equipment used during specimen upsetting is a hammer with a striker weighing 40 kg and a maximum ascent height of 2.5 m. Machining is carried out in a 16K20 lathe. Analysis of the dependences obtained shows a reduction in specimen mechanical properties with an increase in their transverse dimensions (parameter k R is transverse (radial) deformation, i.e., the ratio of specimen average diameter after upsetting to the original). A particularly sharp reduction in mechanical properties is observed for specimens made with an original porosity Π 0 = 30 and 20% of Astaloy 85 Mo and Distaloy HP-1 respectively with an increase in coefficient k R . This makes it possible to conclude that there is lower ductility during free upsetting of these materials, in each of which sections ( k R ) are separated with amounts of plastic deformation specifying a slow reduction in mechanical properties, and then a sharp reduction is observed leading to failure.
