A novel supported-catalyst SiO2-TPACo of covalently anchoring a [Co(TPA)Cl]Cl moiety onto SiO2 nanoparticles (NP) was prepared and characterized. The SiO2-TPACo exhibits robust dual activity of mediating CO2 and protons reduction to CO and H2, respectively, in a noble-metal-free photochemical system; the CO/H2 ratio satisfies requirement of syngas.
