Scaling factors measurement for intraoperative electron beam calibration inside PMMA plastic phantom

Complicated irradiation setup inside the water for intraoperative electron dosimetry suggests the plastic phantoms as an alternative medium. Depth scaling (cpl) and fluence scaling (hpl) factors for intraoperative electron dosimetry inside the PMMA phantom were measured in this study.

cpl and hpl values were obtained at electron energies of 6, 8, 10 and 12 MeV through ionometric measurement.

Results showed that the mean cpl value (averaged over all energies) for intraoperative electron beam would be 0.960 (about 2% higher than reported value of 0.941 for conventional one). The mean hpl value for intraoperative electron beam at Zref was obtained as 0.954, which is about 5% lower than the reported values for conventional electron beam. The reported scaling factors, which are valid for a particular plastic phantom (PMMA) and specific type of dedicated IOERT accelerator (LIAC12), can reproduce the directly measured dose and depth dose distribution inside the water.
