A new approach to the synthesis of 10‐ and 11‐membered lactams via hydrated imidazoline ring expansion is described. In addition to the ring expansion an alternative course of the hydrated imidazoline evolution was discovered, for the first time, which gave N‐aminoethyl derivatives.
