Coupled compression and bending of piezoelectric semiconductor fibers with imperfection

We study piezoelectric semiconductor fibers under axially‐compressive loads. The fibers have some initial geometric imperfections, modeled as initial deflections in the paper, and undergo coupled axial compression and bending. A one‐dimensional nonlinear model is derived from the three‐dimensional phenomenological theory of piezoelectric semiconductors. A theoretical analysis is performed and an analytical solution is obtained for a simply‐supported fiber. Numerical results are presented, showing the effects of the geometric imperfection on coupled bending and compression as well as charge distribution.
