A new method for improving ferritic-pearlitic steel brittle fracture resistance is considered. The favorable effect of thermal improvement and subsequent programmed strengthening hardening during additional medium-temperature tempering is demonstrated on the example of steel 09G2S. The new technology makes it possible to lower the steel 09G2S critical brittleness temperature T c0 determined in terms of the criterion of fracture energy intensity by 20°C, and to increase steel impact strength at –90°C by about a factor of three with retention of the specified strength properties.
