A survey of national and international publications during the past decade (2010–2019) in China was done by searching Web-of-Science and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), including doctoral and masters’ thesis from Chinese universities. The funding of seagrass research has increased during the past decade in China and this is reflected in the number of publications with an increase in the annual publication rate of 19.5 % during this period. The research during the last decade was more diverse compared to previous ones and reflected topics and trends in the international literature, although most studies addressed structure (descriptive approach) and less functions and dynamics (experimental approach) in seagrass meadows. Publications particularly in the fields of impacts on seagrass ecosystems and on restoration projects have increased, also application of new molecular methodologies, and more recently their role as Blue Carbon ecosystems were important fields of interest in China. Seagrass meadows are generally diverse in China and have the same important ecosystem services as elsewhere. There is a general concern on the impact of human pressure on seagrass meadows due to observations of degraded ecosystems in both the South (subtropical and tropical) and the North (temperate) region.
