Abstract — Having various pathological and molecular subtypes with several causes, breast cancer is the most prevalent malignancy amongst women. Neurotransmitters and neuropeptides are triggers responsible for the growth of cancerous cells and metastasis through their specific receptors. These neurotransmitters and neuropeptides include catecholamines, γ-amino butyric acid, acetylcholine, serotonin, neuropeptide Y, neurotensin, substance P, and neurokinin A. Each of these substances raises the risk of breast cancer and metastases, which ultimately lead to the death of patients. The purpose of this review is to investigate the role of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides in breast cancer metastasis.
