Abstract In recent decades, the interest of Russian society in historical science has grown immeasurably. The first reason for this increased interest is because in an era of global cataclysms people turn primarily to the past to find psychological support and thereby restore the connection of times. The second motivation is that, with the emergence of new states on the territory of the former Soviet Union, their political elites began looking through history for tools of their legitimation, often representing Russia as an occupant and an aggressor, ignoring the advantages gained by these peoples over the centuries of being in a single state. This report gives an answer to the question of how the professional community of historians in our country, relying on archival documents and scientific, reliable interpretation of the past is opposed to false theories and attempts to reconsider seemingly well-established historical facts.
