Trinity reservoir oil NMR characterization

Abstract Trinity reservoir refers to the normal oil, heavy oil, and bitumen distributed from bottom to top in Wuerhe oilfield affected by geological movements. Discriminating between producible oil and other hydrocarbons is critical for production planning. In this study, the NMR experimental data, chemical compositions, and geological structure of the samples are compared and analyzed. Geological movements cause an increase in oil density, a decrease in saturated hydrocarbons, and depletion of N-alkane, which finally results in shorter transverse relaxation times of the heavy oil and bitumen. The works for trinity reservoir oil characterization can be applied more reliably to reservoir evaluation and production planning.
