Drift Characteristics of Metal Ions in Helium in an External Electric Field

Abstract

The results of Monte Carlo calculations of the drift characteristics of metal ions (Li, Be, Al, Fe, Cu, W, Hg, and Au) in a constant uniform electric field 1 < E/N < 1000 Td in helium are presented. The dependences of the mobility, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients, and mean kinetic energy of ions, as well as their longitudinal and transverse temperatures, on the electric field strength are given.
