Interaction of Arc Discharges with a Melt in Ultrahigh-Power Electric Arc Furnaces

Abstract

Mathematical simulation is performed to study the electrodynamic and gasdynamic processes of the interaction of arc discharges with the molten slag and metal in an electric arc furnace. The maximum forces that determine the penetration of ac arc discharges into the melt are calculated. Maecker’s theory is adapted to high-current arc discharges.
