Abstract

The ecology of the larvae of flower flies of the tribe Xylotini inhabiting wood substrates is considered. Data on the larval ecology of Chalcosyrphus carbonus Viol. and Ch. femoratus (L.) are given for the first time, and new data are added for 14 more species. Associations with co-occurring xylobiont insects are discovered for the first time. The main and additional biotopes inhabited by Syrphidae larvae are described.
