Power Supplies of High-Frequency Capacitive Transducers for Measurement, Monitoring, and Diagnostics of Metal Products

Abstract

Based on the analysis of information sources, the requirements to the design of high-frequency packet RF-pulse generators for powering capacitance-type transducers are determined. A version of the circuitry of the generator for powering capacitive transducers is developed. The new generator allows creating pulsed peak voltages of more than 1 kV in low-capacitance transducers at frequencies up to 5 MHz with a duration of 1–10 periods of the carrier frequency and sounding frequencies up to 1 kHz. It has been shown experimentally that a prototype of the new generator produces the amplitudes of pulses transmitted through a 20-mm–thick steel sample that are 15.5 times higher than the amplitude of noise received by a miniature piezoelectric transducer. Using the developed powerful voltage-pulse amplifier will allow creating and improving devices for ultrasonic quality control, measurement, and diagnostics of metal products by capacitance-type transducers.
