Carbon nano-beads collected from candle soot as an anode material with a highly pseudocapacitive Na + storage capability for dual-ion batteries

Candle soot has been collected and applied as an active material for Na+-storage anode. The candle soot anode exhibits high reversible capacity and superior rate performance, and this is mainly determined by the pseudocapacitance of Na+ cations. The pre-sodiated candle soot anode is coupled with a graphite cathode using a Na-based organic electrolyte to construct a dual-ion battery. Dual-ion batteries display a wide potential window (0–4.7 V), superior cyclic stability (1400 cycles with the retention of 92.3%), and an outstanding rate capability (111 mAh g−1 at a current density of 2 A g−1).
