Abstract

In this study, the effects of salt and nitrogen were investigated on lipid and carbohydrate production in marine microalgae Dunaliella tertiolecta. All the experiments were performed in dark. Low salinity (3.7 PSU) was most suitable for lipid content (39%) and lipid productivity (100.584 mg/L/d). The maximum carbohydrate content (59.4%) and carbohydrate productivity (65.23 mg/L/d) were achieved in the absince of salinity. During nitrogen ( NaNO3) stress, the lipid and carbohydrate contents increased to 38.4% and 53.14% from 28% and 45%, respectively. However, interestingly, the effect of nitrogen stress on lipid and carbohydrate productivities was not significant.
