Molding Carbon Fiber Parts by Vacuum Infusion Technology Using a Reusable Elastic Membrane

Abstract This article describes a design of a stand equipped with a reusable elastic membrane that performs functions of a flexible punch. The design of the stand allows one to mold small parts using vacuum infusion technology and carry out the impregnation process at various temperatures. The results of the study of the kinetics of the impregnation process using an epoxy binder and carbon tape with a copper coating are presented. It has been established that the presence of a copper coating on a carbon tape allows one to speed up the impregnation process by 12–14%.
