Preparation of Ni 3 Al by Thermal Explosion under Pressure: Influence of Precompaction Pressure and Delay Time for Compaction Pressure

Abstract

Ni3Al intermetallic was prepared from 3Ni + Al mixtures by combustion synthesis in a mode of thermal explosion under pressure. The process was characterized by the barograms of thermal explosion taken upon variation in precompaction pressure and delay time for compaction pressure. Process conditions for preparation of Ni3Al were optimized. Our approach can be readily applied to cost-effective fabrication of other superalloys using similar reactive SHS mixtures.
