On Correlation Control and Criteria for Assessing the Performance of Geophysical Acoustic Logging Instruments in the Field

Abstract

In this study, we solve the problem of developing a mathematical apparatus to determine the degree of correspondence of a diagnosed signal to a reference signal for acoustic logging tools before and after geophysical well surveys. The relevance of the study is associated with the increasing number of “defects” in geophysical well surveys due to untimely detection of a defect in the geophysical instrument. The main element of the mathematical apparatus is the correlation method based on the Cauchy–Bunyakovsky inequality. A formula is derived for the correlation coefficient, which makes it possible to determine the degree of correspondence of the diagnosed signal to the reference signal, and criteria are developed for evaluating the performance of acoustic logging instruments.
