Abstract

The changes in the dispersion of inverse emulsions of oil and their stability during the formation/decomposition of natural gas hydrates are studied in the work. It is established that in the cycle of the formation/decomposition of natural gas hydrates, the aqueous phase coalesces in oil emulsions, containing more than 60 wt % of water, with the subsequent average diameter of droplets enlarging by 12–28%. It is shown that water-in-oil emulsions lose their stability with the subsequent separation into continuous phases in both the processes of hydrate formation and freezing. The separation efficiency of emulsions with water cuts of less than 40 wt % during the hydrate formation process is higher than in freezing/thawing.
