Fracture Toughness of Ferritic Corrosion-Resistant Steel Subjected to High-Temperature Nitriding

Abstract

The static fracture toughness of sheet corrosion-resistant steel 08Kh17T (0.5 mm in thickness) subjected to gas nitriding at 1075°C for 4 h and subsequent tempering at 585–700°C is analyzed. An increase in the tempering temperature from 585 to 700°C is shown to lead to a decrease in the stress-intensity factor Kc from 30.4 to 22.5 MPa m1/2 at a reasonable high strength; the cause for the decrease is the precipitation of large chromium nitride plates.
