Metallicity of Chemical Bonds and Its Role in Their Systematization and Effect on the Structure and Properties of Substances

Abstract

Using universal approaches to systematizing the main kinds of chemical bonds of elements and compounds based on them, we review attempts to solve this problem. The theoretical and practical importance of considering metallicity in the homo- and heteronuclear bonds of elements is substantiated in the context of both supplementing any type of chemical interaction between elements with this bond component and its importance in better describing the structures of chemical compounds and assessing their chemical, physical, physicochemical, and mechanical properties. It is shown that it is important and relevant to consider jointly the degree of bond metallicity in addition to its covalence and ionicity, in combination with the composition of chemical substances to unite the mixed types of the chemical interaction of elements within a unitary chemical system as a chemical triangle.
