Modeling of highly sensitive surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for urine glucose detection

This work presents a novel structure of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for urine glucose detection. The structure consists of four layers namely gold, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ), h-BN (hexagonal boron nitride), and graphene. Here, the few-layer h-BN is used as a capping layer over the MoS 2 layer. The present sensor performance has been evaluated for sensitivity, quality parameter, resonance angle shift, and accuracy of detection. Sensitivity for urine glucose concentration of 0–15 mg/dl (normal range), 0.625 g/dl, 1.25 g/dl, 2.5 g/dl, 5 g/dl and 10 g/dl are found to be 180 degree/RIU, 183.34 degree/RIU, 185.71 degree/RIU, 187.5 degree/RIU, 190.9 degree/RIU and 194.12 degree/RIU respectively. The corresponding values of quality parameters and detection accuracy are observed 14.88 /RIU, 15.15 /RIU, 15.35 /RIU, 15.5 /RIU, 15.78 /RIU, 16.04 /RIU and 0.07448, 0.09091, 0.10744, 0.12397, 0.17355, 0.27273 respectively. Hence, these enhanced performances of the present SPR biosensor makes this structure suitable for urine glucose detection as well as open a new platform in the field of medical science.
