Preparation of facet exposed TiO2/Ti3C2T composites with enhanced photocatalytic activity

Abstract The TiO2/Ti3C2Tx composites were invented by solvothermal processing, which was studied that the morphology and photocatalytic activity depend on the synthesis temperature (160–220 °C). The photocatalytic activity of the facet exposed TiO2/Ti3C2Tx composites was evaluated by degradation of the methyl orange (MO) under 500 W Mercury light. As a result, the photocatalytic efficiency for degradation of MO of the facet exposed TiO2/Ti3C2Tx composites reached 92% under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation for 50 min at 200 °C. Because the exposed crystal plane TiO2 can effectively capture photogenerated holes and rapidly migrate to the surface of Ti3C2Tx, the photocatalytic performance was significantly heightened. Further, the results of the sample at reaction temperature 200 °C (TT-20) showed that the exposed (001) and (101) facets of TiO2 had higher surface energy under UV irradiation.
