Residual ratio analysis and pyrolysis kinetic study of deca-BDE in PE plastic

The fate of added decabromodiphenyl ether (deca-BDE), a flame retardant, has attracted the attention of environmental researchers because of its biological and chemical characteristics. We performed a residual ratio analysis and pyrolysis kinetic study of deca-BDE in polyethylene (PE) plastic. Our investigations explored the effects of atmosphere type, heating rate, and PE matrix presence on deca-BDE loss, which left in the thermal stress remnants. With respect to environmental impacts, detailed brominated flame retardant (BFR) release information is missing. In this work, we studied the pyrolysis kinetics of deca-BDE in a PE matrix. We used a detector to acquire data regarding deca-BDE residual content, and calculated the residual equation using software. The obtained equation can be used to estimate remainder BFRs in electrical and electronic equipment on the basis of working conditions.
