A dementia diagnosis can lead to a decline in marital satisfaction, positive communication, and intimacy. Impacting a healthy partner's choice to engage in a new intimate relations are their religion, education, social support, loneliness, and desire for intimacy. Using a multiple segment factorial vignette, this study explores perspectives about the permissibility of a healthy partner engaging in a new relationship when their spouse has dementia. Results suggest that religious beliefs and education level may play a role in determining the appropriateness of initiating a new relationship. Considered are also the implications for working with healthy partners and their families..
