Coupled Structural-electromagnetic Modeling and Analysis of Active Membrane Phased Array Antenna

Abstract The main focus of this paper is the effect of surface distortions on the electromagnetic performance of a large and lightweight active membrane phased array antenna (AMPAA) in P-band. The ideal structural-electromagnetic (SE) model of AMPAA is established for analyzing the relationship between the structural displacement and the electromagnetic performance. Based on the SE model, the amplitude and phase errors of AMPAA can be introduced and the electromagnetic performances can be defined. Furthermore, wrinkles distortion caused by tension cables and beam scan at different degrees are simulated to determine the performance of AMPAA. Simulation results show that the coupled SE model of AMPAA can be employed to analyze accurately the electromagnetic performance caused by surface distortions, and AMPAA can satisfy the requirements of given key parameters in this paper.
