Device for Tribotechnical Tests of Friction Pairs

Abstract—This article sets out the basic principles and approaches to modernizing a friction testing machine. The advantages and disadvantages of existing devices for tribotechnical testing of friction pairs are investigated. It is noted that friction machines manufactured by OAO TOChPRIBOR, Ivanovo, including the 2070 SMT-1 friction testing machine, were the most widespread in the Russian Federation. However, in modern conditions, these are outdated and cannot solve problems efficiently. The Department of Technical Service of Machines National Research Mordovia State University has developed and manufactured a new device for tribotechnical testing of friction pairs; it has a modern element base, including a digital signal processing system and specialized software for controlling the test process. The new device yields basic tribotechnical characteristics in real time; test results can be analyzed on a PC. The results of the study are used to increase the reliability and accuracy of tribotechnical tests of friction pairs from structural materials.
