Abstract The formation of three-phase cavitation bubbles in hydrophobic liquid when a cylindrical body slides along a rigid surface is experimentally investigated. The structure of cavitation bubbles is determined. Condensed–steam microdroplets with a positive electric surface charge are revealed on the gas–hydrophobic liquid interface, the cavitation bubble sheath having a negative charge. Each of such cavitation bubbles induces the self-electric field due to the surface charges of the interfaces. The effect of the electric fields of neighboring bubbles on the movement of water microdroplets is established. The presence of the electric field induced by bubbles can lead to their repulsion or integrating. Electroluminescence appearing in coalescence of bubbles is first recorded.
