s from the 2019 Symposium/Convention abstracts are in this issue. The new digital viewing of these posters was used at the 2019 S/C and proved to be excellent along with visiting with poster presenters. One important fact is to remind our readers that they have done the major part of the work for their posters which can be converted to manuscripts following a JOH format. Chlipala and colleagues presented a poster which is now a paper in this issue on the use of optical density-based image analysis as a way to evaluate the hematoxylin and eosin stain. Genty and McDonnell publication on a new technology was in the 2019 December special topics issue and was both a poster and talk at the NSH annual 2019 S/C [1]. A recent commentary in Science [2] captured my attention with the title ‘Respect the Poster.’ For those planning to give a poster at the NSH symposium/convention, this commentary is worth reading. The article emphasized that it is a ‘great opportunity to present a poster,’ especially if one takes the time to prepare with the following advice: content comes first and the poster does not have to be visually stunning. Also emphasized was saying where the poster focus should be, have pride in the work shown which does not need to be flawless, do not be discouraged by any criticism or too few people viewing the poster, and take your poster seriously. I will be happy to provide this article to others upon request. This issue has the return of the case history feature by Abdelzaher, a pathologist, who also has another study in this issue. It is not often when an issue has two publications from one author. The Mustafa group has a research paper on the use of a herbal product cinnamaldehyde, a natural oil found in cinnamon tree bark, as a treatment for aluminum-induced Alzheimer’s disease in rats. Natural products have intriguing traditional medicine backgrounds as treatment of a disease in humans and animals and always of interest by the pharmaceutical industry to develop drugs and treatments. Another article is about softening agents for the always challenging, difficult finger and toenail biopsies and will have immediate, practical use in clinical and dermatopathology laboratories. Sharma et al. tested and compared four softening agents for nails including showing nail biopsy sites, nail anatomy, sample fixation, and subsequent processing through to staining. Many softeners are already well known and used, but these authors provided a nice comparison of four softening agents with results on the advantages and disadvantages of these methods. Pay particular attention to the references in this paper for further reading about nail softeners. The National Society for Histotechnology Quality Management Committee conducted an extensive workload study in 2018 to examine productivity and staffing in different types of hospitals and institutions. If you participated in this extensive survey, the results are found in this issue and will be of interest to those in clinical and other histology institutions. JOH has returned to another feature in this issue. Our reviewers from 2018 to 2019 gave permission to be recognized for their time and efforts to perform a peer review. I especially want to thank these reviewers, even those not named, for their service to JOH. The journal needs reviewers from all aspects of histotechnology from daily routine practices to rapidly emerging technologies, e.g. multiplexing, digital pathology along with immunohistochemistry, molecular neuroscience, and toxicology, used in clinical, veterinary, and research disciplines.
