Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is often the last resort in medically treatment-resistant patients. The mechanisms of its efficacy are still somewhat poorly understood. However, it is clearly a highly effective treatment for severe and psychotic depression, as well as other severe neuropsychiatric conditions [1].
