Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a complex disease with the involvement of the development of atherosclerotic plaque in the wall of the coronary arteries, imposing immense health and economic burdens worldwide [1,2]. It is well recognized that various risk factors, such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, physical inactivity, obesity, smoking, and genetics, contribute to the onset and progression of CAD. Despite rapid advances in the understanding of the molecular mechanism of CAD, the number of life-saving drugs is still limited and it is of great importance to develop new strategies for CAD treatment.
