Damping mistuning effect of the hard-coating-based intentional mistuning techniques on mistuned blisks and its mechanism

Intentional mistuning based on damping hard coatings can realize a combination of intentional mistuning and a substantial increase in the damping of the system, but causes damping mistuning. Aiming at figuring out the specific effects of damping mistuning, this paper conducts investigations of vibrational characteristics of mistuned blisks, some of them with tuned coating designs and the others with intentional mistuning coating designs. The beginning of the paper demonstrates how to obtain all the necessary sector-level matrices. Then, a transformation matrix is presented to assemble those sector-level matrices into system-level ones. In order to calculate the dynamics of randomly mistuned blisks more efficiently, reduced order models (ROMs) based on the subset of nominal modes (SNM) are established. Finally, the impact of damping mistuning and intentional mistuning, both induced by coating, on free vibration and forced response of mistuned blisks are numerically studied. The obtained results present the effects of different coating patterns on forced response reduction, and reveal the reasons for the different performance of different coating patterns in vibration reduction.
