Review of Studies on Structural Performance of Basic Magnesium Sulfate Cement Concrete in China (2014 – 2019)

There is no systematic research on the basic physical and mechanical properties of the basic magnesium sulfate cement (BMS) concrete, which limited the application and development of BMS concrete. This paper offers a review of the new experimental results on structural performance of BMS concrete in recent five years. The flexural performance and shear behavior of BMS concrete beams, the compressive behavior of BMS columns as well as the seismic behavior of the column-beam joints are introduced. The structural components of BMS concrete show the higher value of the cracking moment and excellent flexural performance. The existing empirical equations for calculating the bearing capacity of beams and eccentric compressive columns are modified. The seismic behavior of the column-beam joints of BMS concrete is obviously influenced by the axial compression ratio of the joints. This paper would assist engineers and researchers in better understanding the performance of the new kind of structural concrete.
