Stacked Blumlein Pulsers With Distributed Adders

The development of the Fitch and Howell approach to the powerful rectangular nanosecond pulses formation by the summation of partial pulses generated by a set of double forming lines is considered in this article. Generators designed according to this scheme are often used in pulse power applications and are usually called stacked Blumlein pulser. A variant of a transition from the Fitch circuit using a lumped partial pulses adder to a circuit using a distributed serial adder is shown. The designs of pulse generators with distributed serial adders are shown. The conditions for matched summation of partial pulses in a distributed serial adder are formulated. The results of simulating the operation of the generators in the matched and unmatched modes of summing partial pulses are presented. Formulas for the calculation of shape parameters of pulses in matched and unmatched modes are given (rise time, fall time, amplitude).
