Characterization of Fiber Extracted from Agave americana after Burial in Soil

This work presents the characterization of the physico-chemical, thermal, and morphological properties of the Buried Fiber (BF) extracted from Agave americana L plant leaves that were submitted to burial in soil. The results showed the main components of these BF are cellulose (63.12%), hemicelluloses (17%) and lignin (5.02%). In addition, their crystallinity index is (53 %) with crystalline size of 2.87 nm. Finally, their thermo gravimetric analysis indicates that they are thermally stable until 215 °C. These results suggest that these BF can be used as suitable reinforcement fibers for bio composites.
