ABSTRACT

In this work, a mathematical model for estimating the tube output for Three-phase x-ray machines is proposed. A total number of three x-ray machines are used. The output of each x-ray machine was measured using a Diavolt. During measurements, three types of data were collected: the filtration, the fixed kV, and the charge (mAs). Based on the survey data, a mathematical model for estimating the x-ray tube output is deduced. A comparison between the measured and the estimated output shows that the difference between both is quite small (mainly below 6%, the maximum being 14%). The model is also tested on a dataset published by RadyAzzoz et al. and results also show a slight difference between the measured and estimated values (3% at 80kV). Finally, the results show that the model derived in this work performed better than Kothan and Tungjai’s model. This model could be an alternative method for estimating the output and therefore the radiation doses received by patients during diagnostic x-ray examinations, particularly in the case of non-availability of dosimeters.
